Foundations & Associations

The Principality of Monaco is a place where numerous associations and foundations of various sectors, some with international scope, are flourishing. In this section, you will find a general overview of three of these organizations whose ties to the United States are particularly strong:
- The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation
- The Princess Grace Foundation
- The Monaco-USA Association.

Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation
In June 2006, Prince Albert II of Monaco launched a new foundation for the protection of the environment. "Monaco may not be the biggest country in the world, but I am determined to show it can be among the most innovative in its approaches to the environment", the Prince said. He added that the Albert II Foundation "will be a permanent source of dynamic and innovative actions for environmental protection and sustainable environment". The Foundation mainly focuses on three areas: climate change, biodiversity, and access to drinking water.

- Climate change: Sounding the alert on the challenges of global warming. Helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency by encouraging the development of clean technologies and renewable energy, citizen awareness and action. Preparing populations for the effects of global warming.
- Safeguarding biodiversity: Creating public and political awareness of the challenges of diminishing biodiversity, supporting programs to safeguard species and preserving fragile natural habitats including islands, coastal areas and tropical forests. Acting with the populations directly affected by the impact of human activities on natural surroundings. Encouraging research in biodiversity.
- Water access: Opening access to water for populations lacking this basic resource for life, encouraging water savings in agricultural and industrial processes. Developing technologies to produce drinking water, encouraging 'eco-citizen' behavior in the domestic use of water and halting desertification.

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation promotes individual and organizational initiatives in the field of research, technological innovation and citizen responsibility, as well as the development of activity centers linked to the environment. It encourages people and governments to act, communicate and mobilize for positive environmental impact and sustainable development. The Foundation raises funds for financing concrete projects with clear potential for positive environmental impact. The Foundation's organization reflects its global dimensions. Its governing bodies, the board of directors, scientific and technical committees and ethics commission, are composed of energetic and dedicated people hailing from the five continents. The Princess Grace of Monaco Foundation
The Princess Grace of Monaco Foundation was set up in 1964 by H.S.H. Princess Grace with a view to promote a dual charitable and cultural goal. During Her lifetime, Princess Grace of Monaco was committed to helping emerging artists realize their career goals. Following Her death in 1982, Prince Rainier III of Monaco mobilized a group of individuals to establish the Princess Grace Foundation-USA as a tribute to Her legacy. Since then, and until His death in 2005, Prince Rainier and His children have been active in the oversight and direction of the organization. Now, the Foundation continues its mission to assist performing artists in honor of Princess Grace. (Copyright The Princess Grace Foundation)

Association Monaco-USA
This Monaco-based association aims to be the Principality's main rendezvous for resident Americans, native Monegasque citizens and friends of both nations from around the globe. This association was born according to the wish of Princess Grace to foster a sincere friendship between the two countries.
